Students identify messages that surround them and become literate in the way meaning is created through the wide variety of visual symbols and structures embedded in those messages. While developing their own project, students learn to identify a target audience, define their own message, and apply media literacy skills and practices such as deconstruction, interpretation and persuasion.

Digital Photography
Through studying the techniques of design, color, and text employed by both advertisers and visual artists, students will form their own advertising aesthetic and create an ad campaign that either critiques an already pervasive message or conveys an entirely new idea to the larger community
